This year’s Laneway festival brought another of my favourite singer-songwriters downunder, Feist. The Canadian artist broke into the world’s consciousness thanks to her critically-acclaimed album The Reminder and that song featured in the Apple iPod Nano ad in 2007.
Playing a sideshow at the St Kilda gem, The Palais Theatre, Feist’s set-list was dominated by new tracks, with only a few token songs from The Reminder (and the noticeably absent 1234).
While for the first half the show, the audience politely tapped their feet from their seats, but a mini rebellion was soon to ensue. A couple defied the fun police, dancing their way to the stage for Feist’s upbeat number My Moon My Man. While the couple had a talking to by the staff, Feist bent down near them with her guitar to show her support, along with the couples encouraging gestures the whole lower-ground level seemed to stand up in unison and give the artist a sign of life. Feist said beemingly, “wow, that was one of those moments.”
