As the Summer comes to an end, I covered Soundwave Music Festival in Melbourne for Life Music Media. Always a thrill to shoot festival staples such as The Living End, AFI and MUTEMATH, as well as some amazing international artists for the first time; Green Day, Korn and Placebo.
I worked my way from north to south to capture the night, shooting for nine hours.
This is what I saw.
9pm – Lisa Mitchell live, QVWhile not an official White Night event, as darkness fell, Lisa Mitchell started the evening with a delightful outdoor performance set in front of Luma Domes light installation by Kit Webster and Pierre Proske in QV Square.
11pm – Purple Rain, Old Melbourne GaolThe one hour wait was worth it. A visual and audio experience created by French artist Pierre Ardouvin, visitors were handed umbrellas and showered with illuminated rain, as Prince’s Purple Rain played.

1am – Vortex, Southbank Pedestrian BridgeThe bridge was transformed into a sci-fi visual experience. To be honest, it didn’t quite live up to the itinerary.
2am – Melbourne Now, NGVThe NGV was still buzzing in the early hours of the morning, with Melbourne Now and Edward Steichen & Art Deco Fashion were open all night, free of charge. The highlight – Darren Sylvester’s ‘For You’ disco room installation in the Melbourne Now exhibition.
4am – Midden, Birrarung MarrAn amazing 360 degree illumination paying tribute to the traditional owners of the land.

The runway even hosted by celebrity landscape gardener, Jamie Durie, featured fashion design royalty; Akira Isogawa, Aurelio Costarella, Collette Dinnigan and Martin Grant.
A spectacular blend of fashion, flora and conservation – let’s hope the Royal Botanic Runway becomes a regular Summer fashion event.
So Frenchy So Chic in the Park returned to Melbourne’s Werribee Mansion for the third time. The music festival showcased an eclectic line-up, including Babylon Circus, Féfé, Lilly Wood & the Prick (unfortunately Lou Doillon cancelled due to illness).
Great music aside, SFSC is just as much about the food as it is the music! I rolled out my Renault picnic blanket and enjoyed several French-inspired food carts, including; Cacao Macarons, Bagel Burgers, The Brûlée Cart and Chooh La La roasted nuts.
