Open House Melbourne 2013 – Photos

St Michael's Uniting Church

St Michael’s Uniting Church

Open House Melbourne, now in its sixth year was bigger than ever – more than 100 buildings opened the doors to the public. For the fourth year, I headed down to OHM to photograph the marvelous Hotel Windsor (Melbourne’s oldest purpose-built hotel, still in operation), St Michael’s Uniting Church and the Rialto building. Once again, the day was an absolute delight, the volunteer guides were knowledgeable and the day provided a rare insight into Melbourne’s hidden architectural gems.

Check out a selection of my OHM highlights over the years.

Dark World – Steampunk Photoshoot

Xander Pratt

Model: Xander Pratt

Once again, I collaborated with model/dancer Xander Pratt for a provoking Steampunk editorial fashion shoot in Melbourne. Styling was provided by the talented Rebecca Kennedy – Style Guru. My aim was to utilise Melbourne’s Victorian architecture and Xander’s penchant for defying gravity, to create a unique, surreal world.

Gertrude St Light Projection Festival 2013

Housing Commission

Atherton Gardens Towers

Gertrude St Projection Festival 2013, now in its sixth year, illuminated 10 winter nights with new media art projections on buildings, laneways, tree trunks and footpaths around Gertrude St.

After the amazing light shows I captured earlier this year at White Night Melbourne, I headed northside to bring you these photos from Fitzroy. The Atherton Gardens public-housing towers were the main attraction, featuring an assortment of balloons, spiders and film noir eyes being projected onto the building.

Save The Palace in Melbourne!

The Palace at capacity for Hanson

The Palace at capacity for Hanson

Saddening news that the iconic The Palace Theatre in Melbourne is facing demolition by developers, unless we speak up now.

Over the past hundred years, The Palace has been used as theatre, cinema and now a much loved live music venue. Still holding much of its original Victorian charm, it’s interior holds more significance to preservationists than it’s exterior.

It’s mid-sized capacity has made it a great venue to catch breaking artists, such as Florence + The Machine in 2010. I have photographed many local and international artists over the years at The Palace, including; Kylie Minogue, Groove Armada, Bush, Staind, Josh Pyke and Hanson.
