RMIT Student Diary Cover

This week I received an email from a prospective design student and it got me reminiscing about my days studying Graphic Design at RMIT University… For the nostalgia, here is a photo of my winning entry for the 2008 RMIT Student Diary Cover Competition, which was selected from amongst 100+ 2nd Year Communication Design student entries.

RMIT Student Diary 2008

My Inspiration: Street Art – RMIT University is located in the heart of the city, we often had to walk through laneways to get to our lectures. To capture the essence of our sprawling campus, my design utilised a variety elements reflecting the different disciplines studied at RMIT. Sunrays were in, in 2008.

Best of luck to Class of 2013 design students!

Waiting… at The Hotel Windsor

Waiting by Hannah Smith and Michael John Joseph.

Waiting by Hannah Smith and Michael John Joseph.

During my Open House Melbourne adventures, I spotted this poignant performance art piece at The Hotel Windsor, Waiting by Hannah Smith and Michael John Joseph. Performed in the defunct, but historically significant elevator shafts of The Hotel Windsor. Read more about the piece and The Windsor Art Award on the ABC Arts website.

Rutledge Lane goes blue

Rutledge Lane

New life in Rutledge Lane

Rutledge Lane, off Melbourne’s much famed street art mecca Hosier Lane underwent a makeover this week. Graffiti artist Adrian Doyle had council permission to paint over the existing art in Rutledge Lane with a single colour, blue. The idea was to give emerging street artists a fresh start.

I managed to get a few photos of street artists giving new life to a blue Rutledge Lane.

If you ever travel to Melbourne, make sure you visit Hosier Lane and the adjoining Rutledge Lane to see some of the best examples of street art in the world.

Open House Melbourne 2013 – Photos

St Michael's Uniting Church

St Michael’s Uniting Church

Open House Melbourne, now in its sixth year was bigger than ever – more than 100 buildings opened the doors to the public. For the fourth year, I headed down to OHM to photograph the marvelous Hotel Windsor (Melbourne’s oldest purpose-built hotel, still in operation), St Michael’s Uniting Church and the Rialto building. Once again, the day was an absolute delight, the volunteer guides were knowledgeable and the day provided a rare insight into Melbourne’s hidden architectural gems.

Check out a selection of my OHM highlights over the years.
