Big Day Out rolled into Melbourne on Australia Day. I was Life Music Media‘s live music photographer, covering the iconic music festival for the 2nd consecutive year.
Bands I photographed throughout the day include; Red Hot Chili Peppers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Vampire Weekend, Against Me!, Band of Horses, Foals, Grinspoon and Everytime I Die. Photographing Anthony Keidis and Flea, was probably one of my all-time rock photographer highlights!

Mariah Carey – Allphones Arena, Sydney
Diva Supreme Mariah Carey graced Australia with a Summer holiday cum tour – her first in 14 years, playing Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast. In contrast to some reviews, Mariah thrilled fans with a set list full of #1 hits, hitting that whistle register several times and trying our fine cuisine on stage – Vegemite and VB. My highlight – Can’t Let Go, a cappella. Unfortunately, Melbourne’s show was cut short due to an 11pm curfew.

Check out the original setlist below, interesting to note All I Want For Christmas & Auld Lang Syne were originally planned.

Model: Stefany, MUA: Rachelle Games, Photo: Naomi Rahim
In collaboration with Brazilian-model, Stefany, and LA-based Makeup Artist, Rachelle Games, we created this Lana Del Rey-inspired editorial shoot in Downtown Los Angeles.
Across two locations in the Historic Core of LA (you may recognise the location from 500 Days of Summer), we brought to life a vibe of casual glamour. The wardrobe was styled by myself, using a mix of 60s-inspired fashion and retro hair and make-up by Rachelle. Doesn’t Stefany look like a Hollywood bombshell?

Detail category, Runner Up – Open House Melbourne
Once a year, Open House Melbourne unlocks the doors to give the public the opportunity to explore may of the city’s significant buildings. I love documenting urban life, Melbourne’s history and culture and coupled with OHM’s photography competition, it’s a not to be missed weekend on my calendar.
One of my photos of Melbourne General Cemetery has been selected for the Open House Melbourne 2012 Photo Exhibition. The exhibition will be held at Michael’s Photographic Gallery, Cnr Lonsdale & Elizabeth Streets, Melbourne from Oct 26th, 2012.

Matt Corby played his third and final sold out Winter Tour on June 6th. A beautiful set that had Melbourne’s The Forum Theatre in awe. Supported by local band Alpine and newcomer Hayden Calnin.

Florence Welch onstage at Rod Laver Arena
I first photographed Florence + The Machine during her 2010 Australian tour as an emerging artist in 2010. In 2012, she returned a supernova. Selling out her Rod Laver Arena show in Melbourne, I photographed the show for Life Music Media.

The keyboard headstand
MUTEMATH played their first ever (sold out) Melbourne show at The Corner Hotel. With a 26 song setlist including Odd Soul and Spotlight, the two-hour high energy show with air mattress surfing and keyboard headstands, punters and photographers alike were left satisfied.

Amy Lee – Rod Laver Arena
Corseted goths and pleather-clad kids came out of the woodwork to see Evanescence at Rod Laver Arena last night. Evanescence returned to Australia for an arena tour after a five year hiatus. Lead vocalist Amy Lee put on an energetic show, with her commanding vocals and the band’s lush orchestral arrangements. Bring Me To Life
ended their main set on high, but it was the hauntingly beautiful acoustic rendition of My Immortal
that brought the house down. Check out my Evanescence & Blaqk Audio (Davey Havok) gallery on Life Music Media
