Parasoles, French champagne and sultry divas – So Frenchy So Chic 2017 came to town, bringing it’s signature joie de vivre to the Summer festival scene in Melbourne. Held on the picturesque grounds of the Werribee Mansion & Gardens, it sits somewhere between an indie music festival (a la Harvest) and picnic, and always an absolute delight to photograph.

Another expertly cherry-picked line up, featuring Deluxe, Nouvelle Vague (fronted by Elodie Frege, Melanie Pain and Liset Alea), The Limiñanas and Bertrand Belin. In my opinion, the food carts deserve to be on the bill too – Crepes, Cacau Macarons, Raclette, Mussels and THAT $100 Truffle hotdog at the Maille stand.

2017 marked my tenth time photographing the music festival. View the full gallery.

Werribee Mansion once again played gracious host to the annual So Frenchy So Chic festival in Melbourne. With an eclectic line-up featuring Soviet Suprem, Lou Doillon, Brigitte and Hindi Zahra, it was a fine day in the sun.

I have photographed this event since its infancy at the Prince Bandroom, and for the ninth time I captured the French festivities.

Emilie Simon – one of my favourite French artists

The heavens opened once again for the annual So Frenchy So Chic music festival, at Werribee Mansion in Melbourne. I captured the French festivities for the eighth time, a selection of my photography was showcased on Broadsheet.

The Dø

Featuring an all-star Francoise line-up Emilie Simon, The Dø, La Femme and Francois & The Atlas Mountains on stage, wowing the crowds on the grounds of the glorious Werribee Mansion with a scrumptious selection of food carts, including Cacao Fine Chocolates, Choo La Lah and Aritsan Gelato hitting the sweet spot.

This year’s event was pointedly marked by the recent attacks on Charlie Hebdo, with a minute silence observed by the festival-goers and a ‘Je Suis Charlie’ tribute wall for to write personal messages.

Great music aside, SFSC is just as much about the food as it is the music! I rolled out my Renault picnic blanket and enjoyed several French-inspired food carts, including; Cacao Macarons, Bagel Burgers, The Brûlée Cart and Chooh La La roasted nuts.

A one day celebration of new French music performed against the magical backdrop of Werribee Park Mansion. Crowd favourites, Moriarty performed their unique blend of depression-era blues. Nouvelle Vague were ever as crazy, touring with Melanie Pain & Phoebe Kildeer. And new to Australian shores (and sure to be regulars) – Asa and Féfé.

So Frenchy So Chic – Nouvelle Vague live at The Prince Bandroom

So Frenchy So Chic 2010 tour rolled into town last Thursday, and I was there covering the show for FasterLouder. Berry, a female singer-songwriter, enchanted the audiences her chilled-out acoustic fair. In contrast, Nouvelle Vague fronted by Phoebe Kildeer and former Miss France, Mareva Galanter, put on a high energy show with their pop renditions of punk classics, such as Too Drunk To F*ck and God Save The Queen.
