Billie-Jade in the Suburban Goth photoshoot
One of my favourite movies from the 90s, is the teen witch movie, The Craft. The idea of teenagers practicing witchcraft in a suburban context, against the rigidity of a Catholic school upbringing, shows girls with a strong sense of self with the ability to make decisions on their own terms, without a care of the judgement they receive from their peers. Not to mention, the time capsule of where fashion was in 1996.
For a few years I had wanted to pay tribute to this movie with fashion photoshoot, and there was no one more perfect for the role than Billie-Jade Hastings, lead singer of Diamond Noir. Billie-Jade, like me, had a strong affinity with the movie and is a natural born Alternative Goddess who had no problem embodying the character.
Shot in a quiet inner city suburb of Melbourne. The styling was a modern take on 90s Gothic fashion, with pieces from; Alannah Hill, H&M, Material Girl, Mazi and Jeffrey Campbell shoes. I styled each look to represent the five elements; Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit.

This week I received an email from a prospective design student and it got me reminiscing about my days studying Graphic Design at RMIT University… For the nostalgia, here is a photo of my winning entry for the 2008 RMIT Student Diary Cover Competition, which was selected from amongst 100+ 2nd Year Communication Design student entries.
RMIT Student Diary 2008
My Inspiration: Street Art – RMIT University is located in the heart of the city, we often had to walk through laneways to get to our lectures. To capture the essence of our sprawling campus, my design utilised a variety elements reflecting the different disciplines studied at RMIT. Sunrays were in, in 2008.
Best of luck to Class of 2013 design students!

Salem, Massachusetts is a quaint coastal New England town, just 30 mins via train from Boston. Infamous for the Salem witchcraft trials of 1692, this quirky town has rich American history, stunning examples of New England architecture and it’s sure to celebrate Halloween like nowhere else. There are quite a few tourist traps (mechanical dioramas anyone?!), below I will highlight places where you can discover the real essence of Salem (Google map included).
Tina Arena & Ronan Keating – The Plenary, Melbourne
Excited to announce that one of my concert photos is published in Tina Arena’s biography, Now I Can Dance
. The photo is of Tina Arena performing with Ronan Keating in 2010, at the very first concert at The Plenary, Melbourne.
I’ve been a long time fan, check out more concert photos that I’ve shot of Tina over the years in my Flickr gallery.
Vote to keep Tina dancing on Dancing with the Stars!
Jessica wears L.A.M.B by Gwen Stefani
The concept for this photoshoot had been on my mind for sometime, in anticipation of the perfect Spring day. The theme was inspired by the nonchalance of Picnic at Hanging Rock, distinctly Australian, with a modern take on Victorian-era fashion.
The hauntingly beautiful model Jessica ann Cogan brought the shoot to life. Shot on location at Melbourne’s Royal Botanical Gardens during the Spring bloom, the Victorian-era public park provided the perfect backdrop with it’s mix of English flora and Australian gum trees.
I also assumed the role of stylist, sourcing designer pieces with Victorian frills, pussy bows and embroidery, including; L.A.M.B, Fleur Wood, Alannah Hill and vintage shoes.
Check out the photoshoot in my Portfolio and Flickr.
