The hallowed Gertrude St was illuminated once again for the annual Gertrude St Projection Festival. Better known as GSPF, a brilliant not-for-profit event exhibits emerging new media artists’ site-specific art pieces in Fitzroy.

While these works are best experienced in real life, here are some of my highlights of the event.

Fitzroy came alive this Winter thanks to the Gertrude St Light Projection Festival, a brilliant not for profit event that brings site-specific illumination art to the buildings and alleys of Gertrude St.

Forty media arts projects lit Gertrude St; from buildings, to shop windows and even a Volkswagen Beatle were all fair game for these artists. Low light photography has always been a passion of mine, so I always make sure to photograph this event (check out my 2013 photos here). However, these works are best experienced in real life.

Here are just a few photographic highlights from the festival. View the full 2014 Gallery on Flickr.

Gertrude St Projection Festival 2013, now in its sixth year, illuminated 10 winter nights with new media art projections on buildings, laneways, tree trunks and footpaths around Gertrude St.

After the amazing light shows I captured earlier this year at White Night Melbourne, I headed northside to bring you these photos from Fitzroy. The Atherton Gardens public-housing towers were the main attraction, featuring an assortment of balloons, spiders and film noir eyes being projected onto the building.
